How many tables do I need?
Enter your guest count and table size. The answer changes more than people expect — moving from 60-inch to 72-inch rounds takes a 100-guest wedding from thirteen tables to ten.
Tables needed
13
98 guests seated at 60" round tables, plus 2 at the head table. That leaves 6 spare seats across the room.
The most common wedding rental. Seats 8 comfortably, 10 if you squeeze.
Order 14, not 13. One spare table
absorbs late RSVPs and the family group that has to be moved on the day. It is the cheapest
insurance at a reception.

Frequently asked
- How many tables do I need for 100 guests?
- Thirteen 60-inch round tables at 8 per table, or ten 72-inch rounds at 10 per table. Add one spare either way — late RSVPs and seating changes are close to guaranteed.
- How many people fit at a 60 inch round table?
- Eight comfortably. You can seat 10 if you have to, but elbows touch and place settings get tight — most venues quote 60-inch rounds at 8.
- How many people fit at a 72 inch round table?
- Ten comfortably, up to 12 at a squeeze. Using 72-inch rounds cuts your table count by about a fifth compared with 60-inch, though each one needs more floor space.
- How many cocktail tables do I need for 100 guests?
- Around 20 to 25 for a standing reception — roughly one per four or five guests. Cocktail tables are landing spots rather than seats, so you are counting places to put a drink down, not places to sit.
- Should I add a spare table?
- Yes. One extra table absorbs late RSVPs, a family group that has to move, and the guest nobody wants to seat next to anyone. It is the cheapest insurance at a reception.
- How much floor space does each table need?
- Plan on roughly 100 to 120 square feet per round table including chairs and walking room. A 100-guest reception on 60-inch rounds therefore wants somewhere around 1,300 to 1,600 square feet of dining floor alone, before the dance floor and buffet.
