Random Seating Chart Generator

For a classroom, a workshop, or a dinner where mixing people up is the point: paste the names, set the tables, press Shuffle. Every name lands in a random seat; press it again and the room is new. Move the two people who must not sit together, then print.

  • Shuffle deals every name into a random seat across the tables you laid out.
  • Run it again for a fresh arrangement — each shuffle is one undo step.
  • Fix exceptions by hand afterwards: click a name, click a seat.
  • Print the chart or share a link — nothing to install, no account.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is it actually random?
Yes — a uniform shuffle of the whole guest list, dealt into the seats in table order. Nothing about a name, its position in the list, or a previous arrangement affects where it lands.
Can I keep some people together or apart?
Not as a rule the shuffle follows — it has no seating constraints, and the page does not pretend otherwise. What works: shuffle, then move the handful of people who need moving, which takes two clicks each. If you want a household kept together, use Fill instead: it seats names in the order you pasted, so people pasted together sit together.
Does it work for a classroom?
That is the most common use. Lay out the desks once as small tables (a pod of four is a four-seat table), paste the roster, and shuffle at the start of each term. The plan saves in your browser, so the room layout is still there next time.
