Head table vs. sweetheart table: what’s the difference?
3 min read
Two traditions for seating the newlyweds — here’s the difference and how to choose.
Head table
The couple sits with the wedding party (and sometimes their partners) at one long table, usually facing the room. It keeps the whole party together and looks traditional. Downside: it can separate party members from their own dates.
Sweetheart table
A small table for just the two of you. It gives you a moment together and great photos, and frees the wedding party to sit with their own guests. Downside: you’re a little removed from everyone else.
How to seat around each
With a sweetheart table, seat the wedding party at nearby tables with their dates. With a head table, place immediate family close by. Either way, set it up in the planner and see how it fits the room.
